“Petite Sirah is one of those obscure grapes that not every has had the pleasure of trying – it’s often used as a minor blending partner, but hardly ever takes the lead. Its acidic and tannic nature is why it’s used in blends as it gives body and structure to those wines that need it (it also makes the wines great for ageing!) We were stoked when we came across this one from The Crusher which is over 80% Petit Sirah and is backed up by powerhouses Syrah, Tempranillo, Malbec, Merlot and with a sprinkling of Zinfandel. Its deep and inky with decadent forest floor aromas, wild boysenberries and with hints of cardamom and cinnamon. Its drinking great now but could also be left for the next 5 years or so. Try it firstly on its own, and if you think it needs food pair it with something like rare steak, grilled lamb or buttery mushrooms.” – 18/20, Wine Central Tasting Panel
Black-hued purple in the glass. The nose is generous with ripe dark fruits and a touch of tar. The palate is weighted and full of ripe blackberries, plum and blackcurrant. The tannins are fine and grainy and work alongside the slight acid to create a rounded body. , ripe acidity lending some roundness. Soft-textured finish with a twist of liquorice to finish.
