“Montepulciano is one of my favourite Italian red grapes and comes from central Italy, where the warm Mediterranean climate provides good ripening conditions for this grape’s hallmark style – soft, smooth and fruity. It’s dry, medium bodied and drinks well now.” – Joelle Thomson, Wine Writer
“Meaty, savoury aromas combined with red cherry fruit. An easy, smooth palate with salivating tannins that give great balance and drinkability.” – Lynnette Hudson, Experienced Winemaker and Advisor
“Ready to drink now, this fleshy, medium bodied Montepulciano from Abruzzo is full of life and pairs well with a wide variety of foods. Abruzzo is a small town on the east coast of central Italy and is well known for native varieties Montepulciano and Trebbiano, and grows international grapes like Cab Sauv, Chardonnay and Merlot. San Luigi’s 2017 is ruby red in the glass and an explosion of berries, vanilla and pepper on the palate. Drink now.” – Wine Central Tasting Panel
Fruity, peppery and full of life! From it’s beautiful ruby red colour in the glass to it’s cherry and blueberry ladened palate, this Abruzzo Montepulciano is exuberant and versatile with food. Berry fruits are balanced against spices and herbs, coming together in a smooth body.
Collezione di Famiglia Collezione di Famiglia wines are made from grapes that come from the oldest vines of different vineyards. Older vines with their deep roots in the soil, diminishing vigour and lower yields give more intensity and extra quality to the grapes.
For this particular wine, winemaker Sabino Russo and his team picked the grapes in the middle of the night. Due to the lower temperature, the grapes do not loose any aroma or taste. A seductive wine that will enrich your already beautiful San Luigi collection!
