“Garnacha is the Spanish name for the popular soft, smooth Grenache grape. This one comes from the Almansa DO – a wine region in the provice of Albacete in Castile-La Mancha. It’s a big, juicy Spanish red with body to burn and deep rich fruit flavours. Extremely easy to enjoy now and great value for money.” – 4 Stars, Joelle Thomson, Wine Writer
Doesn’t get much better than this! Well-aged, old vine Garnacha (Grenache to us on this side of the world!) from Castilla la Mancha, Spain – it’s a steal for this price so grab a case before we run out. Grapes are picked in the first week of October from the Piqueras’ organically farmed vineyards, which average around 800m above sea level. They’re fermented and left to age in American oak barrels, imparting those vanilla, coconut characteristics that marry so well with the deep and ripe red and black fruits so typical of Garnacha. There’s enough acidity and tannin so it’s not just a fruit bomb, but something a bit more interesting. Drink it now, with the best of friends around a table full of food – enjoy! – Wine Central Tasting Panel
Red on the inside and out, Garnacha Tintorera grapes produce amazing colour and flavour purity in wine. And this wine is no exception.
It’s velvety smooth with cherry, cassis, dark chocolate and black pepper notes. You might want to enjoy this wine alone to get the whole experience or try with BBQ’d meats.
93/100 Points, Bob Campbell, MW, Real Reviews “The product of organically-grown 45 to 60-year-old bush vines grown on nutrient-poor, limestone-rich soils. A medium-bodied red with an extraordinary lengthy finish. An elegant and appealing wine with dark berry, spice and fresh herb flavours. An accessible wine”
91/100 Points, Sam Kim, Wine Orbit “Richly fruited and beautifully lifted, the engaging bouquet shows spiced cherry, cranberry, smoked meat, dark mushroom and toasted almond characters. The palate is wonderfully ripe and supple, delivering tasty fruit intensity and fleshy mouthfeel, brilliantly supported by silky texture and polished tannins. Sweetly fruited and attractively savoury. At its best: now to 2019”
17.5/20, Raymond Chan “Full, even, dark ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the edge. This has an elegantly concentrated nose with ripe, dark-red raspberry and blackberry fruit aromas, along with a suggestion of nutty oak and earthy elements. The nose reveals a soft aromatic lift with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate has rich, ripe and juicy fruit flavours of dark raspberry and blackberry fruit. The fruit is supported by light tannin extraction, providing a supple, easy-flowing palate, underlined by a little alcoholic power. The acidity is balanced and harmonious, and the wine carries smoothly to a light-nuanced, lingering finish. This is a rich, ripe old vine Garnacha with raspberry and blackberry fruit on a smooth palate with some alcoholic drive. Match with roasted and grilled red meat dishes over the next 3-4 years.”
