Belcolle Barbera D’Alba Dol Le Masche 2016

A step up from entry level Barbera d’Alba, a wine classified as Superiore must be aged for at least 12 months before release. In this case, Le Masche was aged in French tonneaux (basically a huge oak barrel with the capacity of four normal sized barrels) for 18 months, increasing its intensity and capacity to age – we think for at least five years after release. Its intensely fragrant, with an obvious morello cherry and mulberry aroma both on the nose and on the glass. The acidity is distinct, but we think it adds to the wines complexity and helps the finish go on and on and on.
